I hear people moaning about this being said to them, or to one of their friends, about how racist it is. And that’s fair enough I guess, I don’t begrudge you being offended by it. But I think there’s another way to look at this than negative, I personally don’t find this racist at all. I have this said to me all the time, along with, ‘oh you have nice hair for a black girl’, and I don’t feel offended by this in the slightest and it’s never usually said with malicious intent. I think you need to recognise that when people say you’re ugly they generally mean you’re not conventionally pretty, and in their experiences, they probably haven’t met many black girls who are close to being conventionally pretty. But even so, some people aren’t going to like the way you look, some will, and to a select few it won’t matter. It’s just a preference. Some people may not find asian women or white women attractive either. It’s not really anything to get upset about. This is why I didn’t really understand all that uproar when that psychologist deemed black girls the least unattractive. I was just like, so what? When I get told things like this I usually look as it as their views are being challenged. Their stereotypes that all black girls are ugly are being challeneged, and now they know it isn’t true, and they’ll then have a more positive and open outlook in the future. Shouting at them to change their opinion won’t help.
I agree that telling someone “youre rcist for saying that” etc is a total buzz kill and they probably won’t want to go out with you after that.
That said… I feel like they put this qualifier on you “for a black person”. So its like, If I were lined up with other people of other races I wouldn’t be considered attractive. And that I am only attractive compared to “other blacks” whom they don’t find attractive whatsoever. If someone is white they are “pretty” or “hot” and thats that. but like you hear it said all the time about lucy lui “oh she’s pretty for an asian”… what does that mean? she’s just pretty.
in a way when people say “you’re attractive for a black guy” they could be hotter than nick jonas for all I care, but I know that I wouldn’t want to be involved with them
